I sometimes show my own audiences two pictures—one of a wild horse running free, the other of a saddled horse carrying a rider. And I ask, which one is going to run faster and farther, the one with the heavy harness, saddle, and rider to carry, or the one that is free? Well, it depends a lot on the rider and the rider's relationship with the horse, doesn't it? We can imagine situations in which the horse with the rider might perform better in spite of having to carry that extra weight. But we can also imagine the wild horse winning the race, at least if it has a mind to. The rider is obviously an added burden. ...
