The Seven Parts of the Brainstorming Process

1. Choose an optimum group size. The ideal group size for brainstorming is four to seven people. Fewer than four or more than seven people will either not yield enough ideas or will not give each person an opportunity to make a maximum contribution.

2. Select both a leader for the table and a recorder. The job of the leader is to keep the session moving, making sure that everybody gets a chance to contribute and that no one dominates the conversation. The job of the recorder is to write down the ideas as fast as they are generated. Have participants at the table make their selections before the brainstorming session begins.
