Recognition

Managers owe their people recognition when they do a good job. One of the greatest motivations in the world of work is being recognized for having gone the extra mile and done an excellent job. On the other hand, one of the greatest complaints in the world of work is when people work very hard to do an excellent job and are then ignored by the boss for their accomplishments.

Whenever a person does anything that is exceptional, that is above and beyond the requirements of the job (or even makes a good try), the manager should give that employee recognition, both in private and in public. The rule is that whatever gets recognized gets repeated.
