Use Management by Exception

Your goal as a manager is to unlock the 50 percent of performance that employees have locked up inside of them. You achieve this goal by motivating them to perform at ever-higher levels because they want to, not because they have to. Remember, you cannot motivate anybody from the outside. You can only create the environment that stimulates another person to be motivated internally to do more and better work.
