Abstraction is one of the most contentious topics among visual artists and consumers of art. Abstraction is an act of purposeful omission—leaving something out, whether literal or contextual, knowingly and deliberately. By preventing the viewer from recognizing specific subjects or situations, other visual properties, such as lines, shapes, patterns, and form, gain in prominence or even become the subject.
