The Basic Concepts of ADO.NET

As mentioned in the introduction to this chapter, Microsoft is the world champion when it comes to redesigning and changing software. ADO.NET is currently the ultimate solution, so it's time to take a closer look at the basic concepts of this abstraction layer.

The architecture of ADO.NET is comparatively complex and can hardly be compared to a straightforward implementation, such as Perl's DBI layer. In this section, we try to explain the most important classes and make things a little bit clearer. As the Open Source counterpart of .NET, Mono tries to be 100%-compliant with Microsoft's specifications.
