Platform Independent

With the help of .NET, it's possible to implement a module in any language supporting the common language runtime. In case of Mono, this isn't possible yet because only a C# compiler is currently available. In the near future, the community will provide further compilers. Compilers are no longer independent tools—they can be seen as a syntax front end to a large pool of functions. All languages have the chance to access a common set of classes. This leads to a situation in which every programming language has the same power and the same features. It's no longer necessary to implement the same piece of software in every language. In future versions of Mono, users will see the real benefits of this standardization.
