Creating and using host attributes

Host attributes allow you to create standardized service checks (one size fits all) and by using host attributes, you can tailor them to fit specific host needs.

This is an extremely powerful feature in Opsview as it allows you to make a single check that serves many hosts instead of many checks that each serve a small number of hosts.

Imagine the database server that was mentioned in Chapter 2, Basic Configuration, running an HRM and a Financial database. We might want to check if we can run a query on those specific databases, but for security reasons, we are not allowed to use the same username and password for both the databases.
