Any of several methods for building VLSI systems with transistors and interconnections spread over three dimensions. (See Chapter 2.)

ALU

Arithmetic logic unit, which can perform several different arithmetic and logic operations as determined by control signals. (See Chapter 6.)

AOI

An and-or-invert gate. (See Chapter 3.)

ALAP

As-late-as-possible, a schedule that performs operations at the last possible time. (See Chapter 8.)

ASAP

As-soon-as-possible, a schedule that performs operations at the earliest possible time. (See Chapter 8.)

ASIC

Application-specific integrated circuit. (See Chapter 1.).
