absorption spectrumThe spectral distribution of light that has passed through a medium (or been reflected from a surface) that absorbs some portion of the incident light.

achromaticPertaining to visual stimuli (or scenes) that are perceived only in shades of grays ranging from black to white.

action potentialThe electrical signal conducted along neuronal axons by which information is conveyed from one place to another in the nervous system.

acuityThe ability of the visual system to accurately discriminate spatial detail, as in the standard Snellen eye chart exam. Usually tested by the spatial discrimination of two points.

adaptationAdjustment to different levels of stimulus intensity, which allows operation of a sensory system over ...
