Inverse simulation for system modelling and design

Abstract:

Inverse simulation is a tool for finding inputs such that model outputs match predetermined time histories. This could, for example, be an aircraft manoeuvre or the movement of a robotic arm. Through the inverse solution model, behaviour can be investigated in a way that is different from conventional simulation methods which provide model outputs for given initial conditions and input time histories. Several techniques are available for inverse simulation and methods described include a so-called ‘differentiation’ approach, an ‘integration’ approach and an approach based on feedback system principles. Case studies are used in discussing applications of inverse simulation and these ...
