CHAPTER SEVENHeat Transfer with Fluid Flow

When we considered heat conduction in Chapter 4, we assumed that all velocities were zero. This allowed us to deal with the energy equation by itself, unaffected by the momentum balance equation. Such a representation is essentially limited to stationary solids. In this chapter we relax this restriction and consider problems in which there is simultaneous fluid flow and heat transfer. This combination is important in many materials processing applications, include injection molding, metal casting, welding, and crystal growth. We continue the pattern of the previous chapters, starting with a simple example and then considering increasingly complex phenomena.
