Modeling of Systems

As Captain Jack Sparrow says in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, “the hull, keel and sails are what a Ship needs, but what a Ship is, is freedom”. In a similar way it is important to think beyond the parts of a model and how the model is put together to understand what a model is. For example, a model consists of connections, parameters, behavior, and structure, but what the model is really is the vehicle by which we can accomplish design. This is a crucial concept for model-based engineering as we use models to do design, not modeling for the sake of it.
