Windows Phone is Microsoft’s mobile operating system that competes with other modern mobile platforms such as iOS and Android.

4.1 EVOLUTION: FROM WINDOWS MOBILE TO WINDOWS PHONE

Microsoft has a long history in the mobile operating system market. In 2000, it introduced Pocket PC based on the Window CE kernel. Pocket PC was a PDA OS rather than a smart phone OS because it did not have telephony functions. In 2003, Microsoft launched Windows Mobile for smart phones, which was the first attempt from Microsoft to provide a smart phone OS. Microsoft also added phone functions to Pocket PC.
