Week 2: Start Simple—SMS

Getting started with SMS makes sense for the simple reason that regardless of phone type, demographic, or geography, nearly everyone texts. Remember the ITU statistic from Chapter 1, “Map the Mobile Opportunity?” Almost 200,000 texts are sent every second around the world. Because texting is an integral way that mobile users communicate, it should find a place in your marketing campaigns. It may not be glamorous, but it is efficient and effective, and it continues to engage consumers. As a basic marketing support mechanism, SMS has many use cases, from advertising to customer support to loyalty.
