In 2014, Cisco’s Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast Update indicated the number of mobile devices in use exceeded the world’s population. Mobile device sales have outpaced PC sales three to one since 2003, as reported in a study conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
