While many wireless LAN technologies exist, one stands out in today’s market. WiFi, short for wireless fidelity, is a generic term that refers to any type of 802.11 network, whether 802.11b, 802.11a, dual-band, etc. It allows someone to connect to the Internet from any location without the need to plug into a wall, operating much like a cell phone. WiFi enables computers to send and receive data indoors and out, anywhere within the range of a base station, and operate several times faster than the quickest cable modem connection.
