Modern computers are insanely powerful, and the resources available for mixing within the computer seem virtually limitless. Nevertheless, there are times when you need to incorporate an outboard processor. Maybe you’re fortunate enough to have access to a classic hardware compressor, or maybe you’ve got this sound in your head that only your favorite nasty-but-unique stomp box can provide. Either way, you need to get a signal out of Pro Tools, through that external processor, and back into Pro Tools.
