In earlier chapters, you learned to use the essential types of effects in a mixer’s arsenal. You dealt with the proper routing of time-based effects as well as the use of insert effects, such as EQ and dynamics. You also worked on the most important aspect of mixing: critical listening.
In the next few chapters, you will build on that knowledge and apply it within the bigger picture. This chapter deals with getting your mix started, a step that for many is the most difficult. I’ll show you how I get a session organized and how much can be accomplished with the proper use of two simple controls: volume and pan.
