CRIMEA
With its sparkling limestone peak and its jagged “teeth,” Ai-Petri is among the most spectacular mountains in Crimea. Made of the weathered remains of a huge coral reef formed millions of years ago when this area was under the sea, the limestone here is exceptionally dense, hence its longevity.
Throughout the exposure of more than a minute, my assistant and I popped strobes manually toward the peak from various directions, thereby illuminating the mountain evenly, just enough for it to emerge from the shadows. Lighting a mountain that far away with just two handheld strobes shows just how far technology has advanced!
