Minus 2/3 – The Invisible Flash

ROMANOVO, RUSSIA

A priest holds a prayer for the dead over a gravestone found near the site of a Russian Orthodox church that, like many others, vanished during Soviet times.

The downward-turned faces and the religious paraphernalia were shadowed beneath the harsh sunlight. My domed strobe, held very close to the camera, opened up the shadows and provided a light that leads viewers’ attention toward the facial expressions of those gathered around the gravestone.
