Minus 2/3 – The Invisible Flash

PEREVALOVO, RUSSIA

Father Anatoli baptizes youngsters at a small lake near Perevalovo at the end of a summer camp organized by the Russian Orthodox Church. Some of the children come from troubled homes and without experiencing peer pressure would have refused to be baptized.

Without a strobe, the shadows caused by the harsh midday sunlight obscured the priest’s actions. A direct strobe not only allowed me to capture the intricate cutting of the child’s hair, but also opened up the shadow on the priest’s face.
