FRANKFURT, GERMANY

A guest at a masquerade ball wears a partial mask modeled from his own face.

To convey the sensation of dancing, I combined a slow shutter speed, a flash, and an intentional fast, horizontal movement of the camera. The ambient light created a slight ghosting at the bottom of the image and the ceiling lights appear as streaks across the top. The strobe froze the face and mask, while the streaks make the viewer feel as though they are spinning. As in all my interior shots, I used a warming gel on my strobes to match the ambient light.
