Part 4 summary

In this part of the book we have explored ideas about what the ‘good life’ actually means and come to understand more fully that happiness arrives in a more genuine way, a more profound and centred way, when we use mindfulness. We can now understand that:

  • Our struggle with pain is a fundamental part of being able to appreciate ourselves, and to develop kindness, gratitude, compassion and a sense of community, as well as joy.
  • Far from being soppy, these qualities are essential for our physical and mental health.
