CHAPTER 13

Allowing the good times to roll

If only we’d stop trying to be happy we could have a pretty good time.

Edith Wharton

In this chapter we are going to look in more detail at the effects of:

  • Grasping after what we believe to be things or events that will ‘make’ us happy.
  • Being preoccupied with holding on to ‘good’ moments.
  • Being preoccupied with avoiding pain and ‘difficult’ moments.
  • Using mindfulness to enable us to cease this habitual, inefficient and distressing behaviour and freeing us to discover genuine well-being.
