In 1991, two West Coast energy producers found a new way to help Columbia River salmon and improve Southern California's dirty air without spending a dime. Southern California Edison Co. and the Bonneville Power Administration entered into an agreement in 1991 that helped to protect young salmon in the Pacific Northwest. Under the agreement, Bonneville Power increased its release of water in the Columbia River during the summer, and Edison accepted the hydroelectric power that was generated.
