PREFACE

It might seem risky to launch a book about recruiting and hiring I when the U.S. job market only recently stopped shedding thousands of jobs every day and when economists forecast only modest job growth. Even today, though, recruiting and hiring continue. Over 90 percent of the workforce is employed. In many companies, 10 to 20 percent of the workforce, and more in some companies, leaves one job to find another each year. New companies start up every day. Companies continue to promote employees to higher levels, amounting to nothing less than internal hiring decisions.
