Chapter 6. Administering SQL Server Replication

Replication serves many purposes. Most people are aware of its use through organizations that copy databases from one server instance to another SQL Server instance. It can also be used for data distribution, synchronization, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, load balancing, reporting, and testing. When configuring replication, an organization can choose to replicate the full database or partial components of a database, such as tables, views, and stored procedures. SQL Server 2005 has added to this list a new replication topology called peer-to-peer transactional replication. Peer-to-peer replication is one of four SQL Server high-availability alternatives discussed in this chapter.
