Imagine . . . you take delivery on that new car and you're all set to go. They hand you the keys. You open the door and get in. You close your eyes and take in that new car smell. "Ahhh," you sigh. "Nothing like the smell of new leather." Then you open your eyes. You blink a couple of times. Then you exclaim, "Where's the steering wheel? Where's the gas pedal? Where are the brakes? And why are there so many windows?"

In some ways, that's what Word 2007 feels like to a Word 2003 user. It's like a new car—a very new car that is different from anything you've driven previously, but because you've heard that this car can actually fly, has satellite navigation, and gets 150 miles per gallon, you have a pretty powerful incentive to give it a try.

Much of what you knew and loved (or hated) about Word is still there. The question this chapter answers is: Where did they hide it? This chapter also explains what features and capabilities are gone, so that you don't beat your head against the wall looking for what's not there.
