Music on the Go

New to Media Player is the ability to record CDs. Windows XP itself has the ability to burn CDs, as does Media Player. The application can still transcode and copy files to portable digital media devices and personal digital assistants (PDAs) (see Figure 29.8), but the addition of CD burning capability really increases portability.

Tip

Transcoding is what Microsoft's term for converting one media format to another (MP3 to WMA) and resampling the media to make it smaller (128Kb/s to 32Kb/s).
