Using Task Manager

Task Manager provides information about applications and processes currently running on your system, and real time (although somewhat limited) system and networking performance levels. Task Manager is an important utility in managing Windows XP and, as such, has its own chapter in this book, Chapter 19, “Using the Task Manager.” This section takes a look at the performance aspects of Task Manager.

You can start Task Manager in a number of different ways:

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.

  • Right-click the taskbar and then Task Manager.

  • Press Ctrl+Alt+Del.

  • Enter taskman.exe at the command prompt or using the run command.
