Developing a Backup Plan

Everyone has a preference in choosing what data to back up and when to do it. Think about how you organize your files and use your computer and then do some experimenting to come up with the best solution for you.

In developing a backup plan, your first step is to decide what you need to back up. Then you can decide how often to back it up.

Deciding What to Back Up

The easiest kind of backup to configure is a full system backup—that is, one in which you back up your entire hard drive at one shot. This kind of backup takes the longest, but ensures that you will be able to return your system to pretty much the state it was in before a catastrophe.
