Sharing Disks When You Are Part of a Domain

When you join a domain, especially one that uses the Active Directory, then file sharing becomes a bit more complicated. You not only can grant access to files to general users on the network, but you can also set NTFS permissions on selected files and folders that allow certain kinds of access to files and folders. This is covered in detail in Chapter 9 for other users in the domain. The same techniques used for granting access to folders on disk volumes can also be used from Windows Explorer for file shares you create or from the built-in $ administrator shares.
