Troubleshooting Startup Problems

Problems in the startup process can take many forms, from corrupt files to bad driver software to improper configuration. Sometimes, startup problems are caused by hardware failure. Whatever the problem you are having, the tips in the following sections should help.

Note

This section presents tips for dealing with normal startup problems that can be fixed without resorting to extreme solutions. For more serious problems, such as a complete system failure, bad MBR record, or corrupted system files that prevent Windows from starting at all, you should read Chapter 23, “Disaster Recovery.”
