Conduct a Pilot Program

If you are deploying Windows XP on desktops in a business environment, then you should first conduct a pilot project to test the hardware and software currently in use in your organization. When it comes to applications, this is especially important, since purchasing, supporting, and maintaining applications is more expensive over the lifetime of a hardware platform than the price of the computer itself.

Although checking the HCL to determine if your PCs will run Windows XP Professional is a simple affair, applications are another matter entirely. For example, if an application can run on the new operating system, will it give the end user the response time they need?
