BitLocker Drive Encryption is a new hardware-enhanced feature in the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system that provides offline data protection for computers. Available in only the Enterprise and Ultimate versions of Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008, BitLocker provides an extra layer of protection for the operating systems and data stores on the operating system drive volume.
