11.1. The Windows System Resource Manager

In Chapter 7 I briefly touched on the Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM) as a component of the Server Manager. WSRM is a policy-based console that allows you to assign server resources to applications or services. WSRM originally was a downloadable extra for Windows Server 2003 Enterprise and Datacenter Editions, but has been rolled into Windows Server 2008's console. The program also shipped with those prior additions on the CD for both the 32-bit and 64-bit 2003 versions.

To open the Windows System Resource Manager:

  1. Open the Server Manager, expand the Diagnostics node in the tree control, and then click on Windows System Resource Manager.
