3.3. Summary

In this chapter we looked at the network architecture for Windows Server 2008 and the Windows Server 2008 core. Windows networking was rewritten at a basic level with Vista and Windows Server 2008, all the way down to the fundamental modules. The highlight of the new networking services is the Next Generation TCP/IP Stack, something that isn't obvious from a user's standpoint but that plays a fundamental role in improving all IP communications. The improvements in the new stack help support a more streamlined dual path for IPv4 and IPv6, and Microsoft continues to build on their transition tools from the former to the latter.
