5.3. Policy Management Tools

The primary Microsoft tools for managing Group Policies are the GPMC and the GPOE. Both of these tools are MMC snap-ins. The GPMC is a scriptable interface for different policy classes, while the GPOE is integrated into the GPMC and is where you edit each GPO's settings.

To work with the GPMC, you need to install the Group Policy Management feature first. In Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, these tools were separate downloads and were not part of the operating system distribution.

To install the Group Policy Management feature:

  1. Click Start; then select the Server Manager command.
