Chapter 3. Network Services

There are many new networking features in Windows Server 2008. Some are obvious because they show up in the management interface; others are transparent and even more significant. To support the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 as well as to improve security and performance, Microsoft rewrote the TCP/IP stack that shipped with both Vista and Windows Server 2008. The Next Generation TCP/ IP Stack features many improvements in packet handling that are described in this chapter. Enhancements of the HTTP.SYS kernel-mode driver have added a new API for Internet transport, a new authentication scheme, improved auditing, and performance monitoring, as well as NETSH commands.
