10.6. Network Printing

Network printing is a significant part of most enterprise networks. Depending on how a network is set up, print servers are usually the second or third most popular server type, only behind file services and backup servers. Therefore, more efficient use of network printers offers a great opportunity to capture savings and create efficiencies. Windows Server 2008 offers a new print architecture based on .NET and the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), a new print management role, as well as numerous new features based on policies, Internet printing, Unix and Macintosh printer support, and other aspects of Windows Server 2008. The following sections highlight some of the new print features.
