10.2. Down-Level Compatibility

Down-level clients is the term used by Microsoft for versions of the operating systems that are still supported but at a lower feature set level than Vista. Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Pro generally can use most of the Windows Server 2008 feature set, and Windows Server 2000 and Windows 2000 Professional are the clients with the least support. Any client older than Windows 2000 is considered unsupported. That doesn't necessarily mean you can't connect them to Windows Server 2008, but it does mean that many new features won't work and that you are on your own.
