Protecting Servers

Just as some protections apply directly to clients, others apply directly to servers. It’s important to realize that these additional protections are in addition to the other steps already mentioned for both servers and clients.

For example, Chapter 1 stressed the importance of hardening a server. Hardening a server includes reducing the attack surface, keeping the system updated, enabling the firewall, and installing antivirus software. This chapter has expanded on ways to keep systems (including servers) updated. Some other methods you can consider to protect servers are included in the following sections.
