Identifying RADIUS Capabilities

Remote Authentication Dial-in User Service (RADIUS) is an authentication service used to authenticate a wide range of clients. Although it was originally designed to authenticate clients that dialed in using modems, its usage has expanded.

If an organization provides access to the network for remote users with a virtual private network (VPN), RADIUS can provide authentication for these clients. RADIUS is useful as a central authentication point. For example, if an organization includes 10 VPN servers, it can use a single RADIUS server to provide authentication services for clients accessing any of the 10 VPN servers.
