How 802.1x Authentication Works

By implementing 802.1x authentication, an organization can require users and computers to authenticate with the network before they are allowed full network access. The process includes enforcing mutual authentication of the client computer or user account with a Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) server. The process shown in Figure 25-1 takes place when a wireless client attempts to connect to a wireless network requiring 802.1x authentication.
