TCP/IP is an industry-standard suite of protocols designed to facilitate communication between computers on large networks. TCP/IP was developed in 1969 by the U.S. Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as the result of a resource-sharing experiment called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network).
