UNIX and Novell Environments

You can use local GPOs and System Policy to manage Windows XP Professional in Novell and UNIX environments. You can also perform typical desktop-management tasks that are based on industry-standard protocols, such as Telnet and SNMP, a standards-based TCP/IP network management protocol that is implemented in many environments. For more information about using local GPOs and System Policy, see "Non-Active Directory Environments," earlier in this chapter.

Standards-Based Management

Windows XP Professional provides full support for SNMP, allowing you to easily manage systems that run Windows XP Professional by using a UNIX-based SNMP management suite available from independent software vendors.
