Summary

I hope that this chapter has given you a new way to help your organization increase its level of security. It outlined some new tools and procedures. Penetration testing is not something that should be feared by IT managers and systems administrators. Crackers are actively attempting to penetrate you now, and penetration testing teaches you how they work. By performing these tests against your systems before they can, you have a chance to close a good many holes before they become serious threats to your site's security. Some of the techniques laid out in this chapter work better for large IT shops, and others work great in small businesses, where only one or perhaps a few people guard the network.
