What should security newbies do? Well, this is a large problem, and many solutions address the issue differently—some more effectively than others. Let's take a look at some of the approaches.

"Firewall-in-a-Can" Solutions

The market has been flooded in the past months with what I call "firewall-in-a-can" solutions. Either in hardware or software form, these products allow users to apply limited firewall features (usually just basic packet filtering) to their broadband network connections.
