  • High-speed— A good DSL or cable provider can give you transfer rates approaching T1 speeds of 1.5Mbps.

  • Full-time connection— No need to dial in; you're always connected.

  • Relatively static IP address— Most of these services use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to dynamically assign IP addresses. However, if you leave your computer on most of the time, your IP address rarely changes because your computer keeps renewing its existing lease.
